here it comes 4:16pm 1/7/2004

A 2-1 loss to Liverpool (let's just pour salt in the wounds now, shall we?), and you get the feeling that the wheels have come off Chelsea's title challenge. Granted, we're still in lovely position to earn a Champions League spot next year (not to mention poised to make a run in this year's competition). And i did say at the beginning of the season that it was foolish to expect this expensively assembled squad to win everything in its first year out of the gate. But with £110 million spent, having topped the table in late November after defeating Manchester United and won our Champions League group with two famous victories over Lazio, you just expected it all to continue. Funny how defeats sting so much more now that i'm accustomed to Chelsea being one of the "elite".

At least Arsenal drew.

salt in the wounds? you know nohing of salt in wounds, mr. overpriced attempt to buy a championship. matches should only be 80 minutes long anyway.

Don't dispair. The Xmas period in England was always going to be the toughest for Chelsea - with a large group of players unexperienced with the English climate, and the sudden rush of games the EPL has when other leagues are on a brake.

Chelsea has put themselves in a strong position, and should recover mid-month. In my view, the title will go to the team from the top three that fairs the best in the Easter rush.

wait...it was a 1-0 loss wasn't it?

Yup, 1-nil loss. The "salt in the wounds" comment was referring to the fact that, of all teams, we had to go and lose to friggin Liverpool. I hope Damien Duff, Seba, and now Hernan Crespo come back soon and put us back on the right track.

yeah, but you open with "A 2-1 loss to Liverpool"?? aggregate?

ted (www) 4:38pm 1/8/2004
Oops, my bad. I'm getting it confused with pleasant memories of our 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the first match of the season. If only ...
